Welcome to Dula Tips and Tits, the podcast where we cut through the noise and get real about what it takes to build a sustainable doula business. I'm Kaylee Harrod. I've been a doula informally for 14 years and full time for seven. Unknown speaker 00:20 Around here, we don't sugarcoat stuff. We talk autonomy, owning your worth, creating a business that works for you. No fluff, no burnout, just the honest truth on how to be your own best boss. Let's get into today's episode. Unknown speaker 00:37 If you are a childbirth educator and you have someone come to your class and they take your class and they, you know, maybe it's a two-day class, maybe it's a one-day class, maybe it's a weekend class, who knows, and they leave like, I am completely ready for delivery. Unknown speaker 00:56 Do you ever think to yourself, you're really not. And I don't mean that in a mean way, right? Like I do want you to be ready for delivery, but the reality is the most ready you could be is to have me with you actually there, right? Unknown speaker 01:15 Like if you feel like you're ready, but also need real time support, that makes a lot more sense to me, right? If you're like, we're ready, like we got this, then I'm a little bit like you're a little overly confident in your ability. Unknown speaker 01:32 And I truly like hear my tone and heart when I say this, because I'm not saying that in a way that's like, you think you are, but you're not, right? Like it's not a jerky way. It's a way that's like you're ready in some sense, but actually there are things that you can't possibly prepare for. Unknown speaker 01:52 Like there are things that might come up that you have no idea might come. That's what you're not ready for. So why am I talking about this? So this episode is coming out the day after we hung out together in the CEO game plan workshop. Unknown speaker 02:15 So yesterday we had the CEO game plan workshop. The energy was amazing. So many of you showed up. You were ready to plan. You were ready to focus. You were serious about your growth goals. It was killer. Unknown speaker 02:27 And I think what can happen in a workshop like that is you walk away with lots of intention, lots of commitment, lots of ideas, lots of inspiration, and the actual working out of the plan doesn't always happen. Unknown speaker 02:45 And I think part of that is the community aspect, like I'm in a room with all these other doulas learning the doula things, like yes, the shared momentum of that, like the camaraderie of that. And also from this place, I think as you're actually trying to apply what you've learned, there are questions, of course. Unknown speaker 03:10 And then that's when sometimes your motivation fizzles or your forward momentum fizzles, right? Because you're just like, I was doing so great. I had such a good plan. And then it all kind of fell apart a little because I didn't realize I was going to run into this thing. Unknown speaker 03:28 And sometimes that thing is like business stuff. Sometimes that thing is personal stuff. Sometimes that thing is something in the world, in politics, et cetera. Right? And so I think the clarity of something like the doula CEO game plan workshop is amazing. Unknown speaker 03:47 The energy is amazing, right? But the accountability and the application is where the actual magic is. So why am I talking about this? Why am I talking about what comes next? Well, because imagine as a doula, you have a doula consultation with someone and you tell them how great their birth could be with a doula and how wonderfully they could be and how they could have growth and peace and less trauma and more satisfaction and more success in what they're trying to do. Unknown speaker 04:30 And then you get off the call with them and you never even ask them if they want to hire you. You never let them know that you're available for their duty, right? You never say to them, hey, listen, I would love to work with you. Unknown speaker 04:49 Like I think we'd be a great fit and I would love to work with you if you want to work with me, right? You would go nowhere. And even as I'm saying that, I'm sure you're kind of like, Kaylee, obviously I know this, like if I want people to hire me, I have to let them hire me. Unknown speaker 05:01 I have to tell them how to hire me. But that is what I'm also showing you, right? Like as your coach, I'm showing you what it looks like to sell in a way that has ethics and integrity, right? My workshop, the CEO game plan was not just about your strategy, right? Unknown speaker 05:27 Like it's not just about my coaching either, like it's about both, right? It's about how you can strategize, it's about how you need to strategize. And also, the reality is your strategizing is going to be easier and more clear if you do it with a coach, right? Unknown speaker 05:44 And I am your coach for that, right? And so... Imagine I do that whole workshop and never even tell you, you have the option of working with me. I'm doing you a disservice, but I'm also not showing you how to be a business owner, right? Unknown speaker 06:00 Like I'm not showing you how to show up for yourself and your business in a way that does keep momentum going and does keep integrity high, right? But also like helps people do what they want to do. Like helps people kill their goals, like crush their dreams, right? Unknown speaker 06:21 Like really in a way that crush, I mean in like the most positive sense. But like if you see someone who's trying to hire you for birth and you're like, good luck and you don't let them hire you, you're doing them a disservice. Unknown speaker 06:33 You're not saying, hey, I could help you with what you're wanting help with. And maybe they don't want to hire you. That's on them, right? They get to choose that. You're not forcing anything on them. Unknown speaker 06:46 You're inviting them to work with you, right? You're offering the package to them. They choose to step into it or not, right? So part of what I'm trying to show you even in this offer is how to do the offer, right? Unknown speaker 07:03 How to sell the thing. Like I'm teaching you what it looks like to run a business with integrity and also have offers that have real price tags, right? And I mean, I have free workshops all throughout the year because I love having workshops. Unknown speaker 07:19 I love teaching and I want my services to not always cost money, right? Like I want them to sometimes be free because I think that is part of sustainability and that is part of giving back and it is part of what I believe in at my core, right? Unknown speaker 07:35 And so that I'm not going to only sell and I'm not going to always sell, but I am going to sell because what else would I do? Like how else would I have this business, right? And so part of you stepping into your CEO energy is not apologizing for selling. Unknown speaker 07:51 Like it's okay that you want more clients, that your packages need to cost a little bit more, that you want more impact in the world, like that's okay, right? You need planning, you need that focus, you need sustainability, that flow we talked about, right? Unknown speaker 08:06 And we need financial growth. All of us, all of our businesses need that. That is normal, right? And investing in yourself and your business is part of how that happens. So why am I talking about that today? Unknown speaker 08:21 I'm talking about this today because everyone who was at the CEO game plan workshop yesterday got an invitation to join my coaching, which is a three month coaching program. It's one on one, just you and me. Unknown speaker 08:38 It's normally 1297, so that's the full price of it. But for 48 hours, I'm offering it for 10% off. And so that is a couple hundred bucks off, right? Like that's a big deal. And I want you to have that offer. Unknown speaker 08:56 Like I want you to have that as a possibility for you. So there's a link in the show notes to book a call with me. If you're listening to this and you're like, I'm ready. Like I want to be a CEO. I want to run my business with some guidance. Unknown speaker 09:10 I want to run my business with some strategy. Let's chat. Let's chat and get you signed up, right? Let's chat and get you the strategy that you need. There is a book, a call link in the show notes to have a free call with me, ask questions about the program, talk about what it entails, discuss with me, how you can start it, how you can kind of get the most out of it, et cetera. Unknown speaker 09:37 I'm not going to apologize for offering you that option because it's a necessary thing for my business and because I want you to learn how to do it well, right? Your business deserves support. It deserves structure and it deserves financial growth. Unknown speaker 09:54 And I want you to have someone in your corner who believes that you're actually capable of pulling that off, right? So that is my pep talk slash offer to you today. If you are ready to move into your CEO era in your doula business, book a call with me. Unknown speaker 10:11 That link is in the show notes. Last week’s Doula CEO Gameplan workshop was incredible — the energy, the insights, the “aha” moments… I’m still buzzing. But today, I want to talk about something that might make some folks squirm a bit: why I always make an offer at the end.
Here’s the truth — clarity without support usually fades. Planning is step one, but implementation? That’s where growth actually happens.
In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why I invite you to work with me, what that offer really represents, and how learning to sell your own services with confidence is part of stepping into true CEO energy.
We’ll talk about accountability, sustainable structure, and why investing in yourself isn’t about spending — it’s about expanding.
Quote from the show:
“Part of you stepping into your CEO energy is not apologizing for selling. Like it's okay that you want more clients, that your packages need to cost a little bit more, that you want more impact in the world, like that's okay, right? You need planning, you need that focus, you need sustainability, that flow we talked about, right? And we need financial growth. All of us, all of our businesses need that. That is normal, right?
